The banking agencies recently issued new proposed guidance on managing the risks of third-party relationships (called Third Party Risk Management, or TPRM), which changes the rules of the game somewhat, but not necessarily as much as many think. The proposed guidance seems to be less prescriptive, but at the same time there are still many responsibilities financial institutions must follow.

Over the past few years there has been much scrutiny on financial institutions’ involvement with vendors and other third parties, especially with the rise of AI in banking. Vendor management has been an important issue for a long time, but it is apparent that regulatory expectations to evaluate and responsibly manage third party relationships are increasing. Increasingly financial institutions need the expertise of other entities and professionals to thrive. The landscape of banking is rapidly changing in important ways, and financial institutions must adapt, which means third party cooperation is essential.

In this all-day streaming session, we’ll discuss both the new proposed guidance and what regulators’ expectations are, and how to best maintain your vendor management program. We’ll address how previously-issued guidance can serve as best practices to support your efforts. We’ll provide many real-world examples to bring these concepts home. We’ll also go over the elements of a successful TPRM program in any institution, from vendor selection to contracting to monitoring to termination of the relationship.
